In the absence of a couple of details and the signing of contracts, it is almost certain that fight between Takashi Miura, the current super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council, and mandatory challenger Francisco ' Bandido 'Vargas, will take place on the undercard of the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez HBO Pay-Per-View. The card is set for November 21st at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
Vargas (22-0-1, 16 KO) vs. Miura (29-2-2, 22 KOs) was scheduled to go to an ordered purse bid. World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman has revealed that his organization has placed the purse bid on the shelf because both sides are very close to reaching an agreement, with the Cotto-Canelo card as the target.
"We hope to get confirmation that they will be on the card. It would be sensational to have another Mexican like Vargas looking for a title and a great champion like Miura, to have them fighting for the world championship on the card. There will be no purse bid, they are close to an agreement," said Sulaiman to ESPN Deportes.
"I think it will be a very important and difficult fight. Miura is the executioner of Mexicans. He has constantly stopped them in his title bouts, and won against Gamaliel Diaz, Dante Jardon, Sergio Thompson, and now comes another Mexican in Francisco Vargas."
