Erik Morales, fighting the entire fight with a swollen-shut eye, landed the higher pct. of punches, but was outworked and outlanded by Marcos Maidana, who threw nearly 1,000 punches.  Morales rallied in rounds eight (landing 61% of his power punches), nine (landing 67% of his power shots) and round ten (landing 42% of his power shots).  Maidana had a 39-15 edge in punches landed in rounds eleven and twelve.

Maidana clearly won rounds 1/2 and 11/12 and i think you can easily find some other rounds in between.. it was close but far from a robbery and i think ultimately he won. I wonder what would have happened had the eye not swelled like that in the early rounds though

Great fight ... great fight. Can't really argue with the scorecards. I have even with 2 rounds to go and you have to give those to Madiana. A little more in the tank for Morales and this could easily have gone his way. But you can run out of superlatives to describe Erik. He is certainly the Man.

Morales won, take in to fact defense is a part of boxing not just offense. Morales made Maidana miss a ton of punches. Which means Morales had far better boxing skills and ring generalship. Morales won period.
Maidana won the fight but in unspectacular fashion. He was horrible, and looked bad. It was close but Maidana defiantly just edged the fight out, the last two rounds were crucial for Maidana.
żUnspectacular fashion? Maidana fought his fight & the same way he always fights!! ...
