Luis Collazo has promised to "welcome" Amir Khan to the welterweight division by defeating the Bolton boxer when the pair clash at the MGM Grand next month.
Khan is stepping up to 147lbs from light-welterweight and fights Brooklyn-based Collazo for the vacant WBC Silver welterweight strap on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's bout with Marcos Maidana.
Former WBA and IBF light-welterweight champion Khan has beaten New-Yorkers Paulie Malignaggi and Zab Judah in the past but Collazo has warned the 27-year-old he faces a much tougher task on May 3.
"I'm ready, I'm seasoned and this is my time," Collazo told the Sky Sports Toe 2 Toe podcast. "At the end of the day, in that ring, it's just me and him and I know what I want. I know what it takes to be a world champion again.
"The difference is going to be who wants it the most and right now the way I'm feeling, the drive I have and the guidance I have is just tremendous, and I will come out victorious.
"Styles make fights. He's moving up to the welterweight division and it's different from 140-pounders.
"Zab is really a 140-pounder. He's not a natural welterweight and although Amir Khan is big in size let's see how he does in the welterweight division.
"I'm going to welcome him with open arms. I'm going to welcome him to the welterweight division come May 3."
Collazo came unstuck the last time he faced a British opponent, losing a unanimous points decision to Ricky Hatton back in 2006.
But Collazo insists he is unfazed at the prospect of facing another Brit and the 33-year-old has promised fireworks when he takes on Khan next month.
"Ricky's a humble individual and I don't have any problems with Ricky Hatton," Collazo said.
"Things happen for a reason. I just appreciate everything I've been through and I know come May 3 it's just going to be a totally different fight.
"Ricky can give him all the advice he wants Amir Khan is totally different from Ricky Hatton and Ricky Hatton is totally different to Amir Khan.
"I've just got to go in there and fight my fight just pick my shots and use my experience. I've been here before and this is not my first time at a big fight and come May 3rd it's going to be an explosive night for both of us.
"I know it's going to be a fight that the fans are going to enjoy and they are not going to forget it. They're going to be talking about it for quite some time."Tags: Amir Khan , Luis Collazo , Ricky Hatton , Khan-Collazo , Khan vs. Collazo
