Claudio Marrero Inches Closer To WBA Title Shot

By Reynaldo Sanchez

Dominican featherweight Claudio Marrero (14-0, 11 KOs), currently ranked at #3 by the WBA, is inching closer to a major title shot. He fought five times in 2012, with three of the victories coming by way of knockout. The current "regular" champion in the division is Nicholas Walters. The fighter ranked at number one is Javier Fortuna, who Marrero knows very well from the amateur ranks.

Promoter Henry Rivalta wants to get him a world title fight in 2013.

Rivalta said: "We are convinced that Marrero is one of the best boxers in this division there are only two fighters ranked under the WBA before Marreo, Javier Fortuna and Nicholas Walter. Marrero defeated Javier Fortuna twice in the amateur days, and the people behind Fortuna know that."
