Chudinov vs. Nielsen Is Announced for June 1 in Moscow

By Alexey Sukachev

According to Boxko.ru, an informed source about Vladimir Hryunov’s promotional plans, the latter’s protégé Dmitry “Night Wolf” Chudinov (12-0-2, 8 KOs), who holds an interim version of the WBA middleweight title (and thus is ranked #1 by the WBA) will take on WBA #4 Dane Patrick Nielsen (22-0, 11 KOs) on June 1 at Crocus City Hall in Myakinino, Moscow, Russia. The event will be co-promoted by Vladimir Hryunov and Sauerland Event. HBO is reportedly interested in broadcasting the fight.

Chudinov, 27, is coming off a banner year in 2013, going 5-0-1, 4 KOs, including stoppage wins over Milton Nunez, Grady Brewer and Juan Camilo Novoa. He was previously slated to face the different opponent in WBA #2 rated Australian Jarrod Fletcher, but that fight has been firstly postponed and then scratched for good.

Meanwhile, 23-years old Nielsen, the WBC Silver title owner, is presently scheduled to fight undefeated Dominican Juan Ubaldo Corodba (21-0, 14 KOs) on May 24, according to BoxRec.com. Nielsen and Chudinov have one common opponent in British fighter Patrick Mendy, who was clearly outpointed (117-110, 117-110, 117-111) by Nielsen in February 2013, and earned a draw versus Chudinov five months after that.

On the undercard, WBA interim lightweight champion Svetlana Kulakova (9-0, 1 KO) will finally get in the same ring with Argentinean import Ana Laura Esteche (10-3-1, 2 KOs) in the WBA unification. The fight was first scheduled to take place in February 2012 but was then twice postponed.
