According to his head trainer, four division world champion Roman 'Chocolatito' Gonzalez (46-0, 38KOs) will return to the gym in late October or early November, to continue keeping his body in shape ahead of his next fight.
Last month in Los Angeles, Chocolatito moved up to 115-pounds and captured the WBC super flyweight title with a twelve round decision over Carlos Cuadras. After winning the belt, he vacated his WBC title at 112-pounds.
The win made Gonzalez become the first fighter from Nicaragua to capture four belts in four weight divisions.
The World Boxing Council had ordered the winner of Gonzalez-Cuadras to make a mandatory defense in 90 days.
The mandatory challenger is tough Thai boxer Srisaket Sor Rungvisai (41-4-1, 38KOs). He lost a technical decision to Cuadras in May of 2014, and then reeled off 14 straight wins and 13 of them by knockout.
"Roman will not fight until next year," said his coach Arnulfo Obando. "In late October or early November, Roman will be back in the gym to loosen up the muscles. We do not want to fall into inactivity and getting overweight. At the moment he is resting, which he deserves after the training camp that we had in Big Bear."
Gonzalez is looking over at his options at the weight and there are quite a lot of them. He seems to be focused on a rematch with Cuadras. There is also a rematch with Juan Francisco Estrada, who debuts at 115-pounds next Saturday, and then there is a highly anticipated unification with Naoya Inoue of Japan. There is also WBA champion Luis 'El Nica' Concepcion, who defends his title in the coming months.
