Don Charles, trainer for EBU champion Dereck Chisora, is giving undefeated Kubrat Pulev a great shot at defeating WBO/IBF/WBA/IBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko on Saturday night in Hamburg, Germany. Charles was impressed with the way Pulev broke down and beat much taller men in Alexander Ustinov, Tony Thompson and Alexander Dimitrenko.
Charles doesn't see Pulev being intimidated like other Klitschko opponents and believes the challenger has the proper tactics to get inside and work over the taller fighter.
"Don’t be surprised if Pulev knocks Klitschko out this weekend,” Charles told Sky Sports News HQ. “I wouldn’t be surprised because for me it’s a question of who lands their right hand first. I think it could be very interesting because Pulev is a very strong guy both mentally and physically and he’s unbeaten. He’s beaten some credible people and along the way he’s also disposed of Alexander Ustinov.
“Ustinov has sparred with Dereck in the past so I’ve had the privilege of watching him close-up and he’s a very big man at 21-and-a-half stone. The way Pulev beat him up like a baby tells me Wladimir will have his hands full on the night.
“Pulev will not be fazed by Wladimir whereas most opponents are fazed by him and feel inferior. I don’t think Pulev will have those issues and he will have the belief that he can do a number on him. That is just what I think could happen but of course it could be totally different where Wladimir comes in and does what he does best and Pulev freezes.”
