Derek Chisora’s British heavyweight title defense against Tyson Fury has been pushed back slightly after the BBBoC revealed that the contest was being sent back out to purse bids as Mick Hennesy, who won the original right to stage the contest, has been ‘unable to fulfill the terms and conditions of the British Boxing Board of Control Championship purse bid.’

The new bids are due for next Wednesday.  The contest itself is mandated to take place before the end of July in order to keep the title active.  Chisora was in the frame for an unlikely crack at Wladimir Klitschko earlier this year only for the bout to fall apart due to Wlad’s recent injury struggles.  Derek has not fought since his September win over Sam Sexton, a ninth round TKO victory, and is no doubt chomping at the bit as he seeks to build on a fine 2010.

Hennessy Sports has had a tough time of late, losing Darren Barker, John Murray and now Carl Froch to rival promotional firms.  Fury, though, decided to stay by Hennessy’s side and has been kept relatively busy – four fights in 2010 and one in 2011 – but will now have to wait a little bit longer for his British title shot.
