Dereck Chisora believes a victory over Olympic gold medal winner Anthony Joshua will not give his career a boost because everyone will say the rising contender was too inexperienced.
A fight between the two of them is now in line after Robert Helenius vacated the EBU heavyweight championship.
Chisora (25-5, 17KOs) was the mandatory challenger to Helenius' belt. Now with the title being vacant, the next contender in line is Joshua (15-0, 15KOs).
Kalle Sauerland, who promotes Chisora, is already talking with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport to make the fight a reality
"I would not [put Joshua in the ring with me]. The guy is still learning the trade and the craft. He said it himself after fighting Dillian Whyte that he still has loads to learn. He's right," Chisora said to Sky Sports.
"He's not fooling anybody. He knows he needs to learn the tricks of boxing. It's great that it's coming from himself that he needs more experience. He does need more experience."
Chisora is unsure if the fight will actually come together. Because Joshua holds the British/Commonwealth world titles, Chisora feels the unbeaten boxer will head in a different direction like a title defense against David Price.
Even a bout with Price is not an immediate option for the popular Olympian. Price will take a stay busy fight in April to recover from his tainted knockout loss at the hands of Erkan Teper last year. Teper tested positive for steroids and received a two year ban.
"Me fighting Joshua doesn't put me on the map. If I win, they're going to say that I beat a novice. It doesn't build a platform for me. I'm the mandatory challenger so we'll see what happens," Chisora said.
"The situation is that he [Helenius] has vacated. I don't know why. He says he's going for a world title fight but we'll have to see what happens in the next couple of weeks. It's a great fight on paper but it depends on the other side if they want the fight. There's no point him fighting for European if he can defend the British and Commonwealth title against David Price."
