Although boxing manager Roberto Grimaldo, and WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno, are going through a strained relationship - the champion is not going to sign a lucrative promotional contract with Golden Boy Promotions without receiving authority from his manager.
But, Chemito wants a public apology from Grimaldo, who recently attacked the boxer and his wife when speaking with reporters in Panama. The manager vowed to sue everyone involved for dealing behind his back and further made a promise to leave everyone involved bankrupt from the legal battle.
Even with the harsh words from Grimaldo, the boxer will not break the bond that began 17 years ago.
"I don't think that was the way to handle things. He should have called me to fix this in the best way possible, by talking. I was in 'shock' when I heard what he said. I feel like Grimaldo is hurt by this, but he shouldn't be, because he will still continue to be my agent. The only thing I demand is a public apology for what he said about me and my wife," said Moreno. "If this does not happen, I will not answer any calls, or talk to him."
Moreno is interested in the Golden Boy deal, worth four fights and $1.2 million dollars, but he won't make a move until Grimaldo agrees.
"Since the time I was in Cancun, Mexico, [promoter] Carlos Gonzalez told me about that offer. Upon returning to Panama, he talked to Grimaldo about this. Indeed, we met at my house to discuss the issue. I never said I would sign anything behind his back. That will not happen."
