WBA bantamweight champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno (32-1-1, 11KOs) will likely move up to the super bantamweight division before the end of the year. Moreno faces David De La Mora on April 21 in El Paso, Texas. Moreno, fighting at 118-pounds since 2006, is not sure if the De La Mora bout is his final defense at the weight. Most of the recognizable bantamweight names have already made the jump to 122.
"There is nobody to defend against at 118, everyone is going to 122 and in the future it's a likely possibility that I'll move up a division. Right now I have a contract with Golden Boy Promotions for four fights. I think more acceptable option would be to move up to 122 pounds to look for bigger opportunities," Moreno said.
Moreno is having some struggles making the weight. He doesn't rule out the option of making a move to super bantam after his four-fight obligation to Golden Boy has been satisfied. Moreno would like to fight a total of three times in 2012, which could see him at super bantam by early 2013 at the latest.
