Chavez vs Rubio Reportedly Done For February 4th Bout

By Ryan Burton

Oswaldo Kuchle of Promociones Del Pueblo informed BoxingScene.com that they have received a contract from Top Rank to match WBC mandatory middleweight challenger Marco Antonio Rubio against the champion, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

"We have received a contract to face Chavez on February 4th. The purse and venue have all been agreed upon.  The fight will be in San Antonio," said Kuchle.

There is some confusion because yesterday the WBC ruled that Chavez must face Sergio Martinez in his next fight or be stripped. Kuchle revealed that Top Rank had reached an agreement with Martinez's team to allow Chavez to face Rubio under the condition that the winner faces Martinez next.

"Chavez's team reached an agreement with Martinez's people.  The agreement is that the winner will face Martinez in their next fight," stated Kuchle. "I sat ringside next to Martinez. He told me that Rubio will knockout Chavez in six rounds or less."

I've watched a bunch of Rubio fights in the last year and he's a solid contender. He keeps his hands high, fights at a measured pace and has decent power. I think he gives Chavez Jr. some work but I…
