| Chavez Sr: Canelo Alvarez Should Fight Austin Trout

By Miguel Rivera, notifight.com Mexico's legendary Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. would like to see WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (41-0-1, 30KOs) step up and face WBA "regular" beltholder Austin Trout (26-0, 14KOs) in a unification on May 4th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Canelo was going to face Miguel Cotto in the first half of 2013, but Trout got in the way with a clear unanimous decision victory over Cotto on December 1 in New York. Chavez is not impressed with Canelo's competition. If he beats Trout, then Chavez will be convinced that the young boxer is ready for Floyd Mayweather Jr. "Look, Canelo is a strong young boy with a lot of qualities, but he definitely has not fought anybody. I believe he should fight with Austin Trout, who is coming off the victory over Miguel Cotto, in order to prove that he's ready to fight Mayweather," Chavez said. Floyd fans were calling me a hater for saying a similar statement as Chavez Sr in that Canelo is young and still needs fights under his belt against some top ranked fighters before thinking about putting him in with Floyd. I guess Chavez Sr said what he said because he must be a Floyd hater ....... |
