Mexican great Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. has blamed promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank as being the reason for Floyd Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao not being finalized.
Mayweather was once promoted by Top Rank. He bought out the remainder of his contract in 2006. The unbeaten fighter has refused to do business with Top Rank since then, and even advised Pacquiao to leave his promoter in order to make a fight between the two of them.
The negotiations for Mayweather-Pacquiao are once again underway, with no clear answer in sight on whether or not the fight will actually happen.
"It's a natural fight, that the audience wants to see. I think the obstacle has been Bob Arum. If Bob was not there, the fight would have already taken place. But anyway, hopefully in 2015 this [fight will become a] reality for the benefit of boxing and the people who want to see this fight. It is a fight anticipated by many," Chavez Sr. said to ESPN Deportes.
Chavez Sr.'s son, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., is currently involved in a legal dispute with Top Rank.
