Former World Boxing Council (WBC) world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. has completed the strong stage of his preparation for the crucial match against fellow Mexican Marco "Dorado" Reyes , which takes place this Saturday night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The fight will be broadcast live throughout Mexico by Televisa Deportes and in the United States on Showtime.
Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is very prepared for his upcoming return, this coming Saturday night in El Paso, Texas. He goes against fellow Mexican Marco Antonio 'Dorado' Reyes. This will be the first fight for Chavez with new trainer Robert Garcia. And Chavez reveals that he put in over 100 rounds of sparring, which was a product of work that Garcia demanded from the fighter. The match takes place at the super middleweight limit of 168-pounds. In his last fight, Chavez made the mistake of jumping up two divisions to light heavyweight and was stopped in nine rounds by Andrzej Fonfara.
Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain is confident that his pupil, Marco "Dorado" Reyes, has what it takes to defeat former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. next Saturday night in El Paso, Texas. They will clash in a Premier Boxing Champions televised main event. "We have worked very well, (Marco) is a disciplined boy who has great physical condition and is very motivated by the opportunity they are giving him," Beristain said.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s next fight is clearly intended as a comeback bout, one that’ll help him rebuild and rebound from an April technical knockout loss to Andzrej Fonfara. He’ll face Marcos Reyes, a longtime 154- and 160-pounder who is 33-2 with 24 KOs, is coming off a win over David Lopez and, before that, a majority decision loss to Abraham Han. While Chavez Jr. was once a middleweight titleholder, he’s outgrown that division, having fought Brian Vera at 172 and 168 pounds before unsuccessfully challenging Fonfara at a catch-weight of 172. Chavez took punishment and then quit shortly after a knockdown, citing an injury.
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.’s technical knockout loss to Andrzej Fonfara clearly hasn’t hurt his confidence. “When I fight at my weight, I can beat anybody,” Chavez said Thursday while discussing his July 18 fight against fellow Mexican Marcos Reyes. “There’s nobody in boxing who can beat me when I fight at my weight. I feel this is the best part of my career and on July 18th I’m gonna win.”
