San Antonio, Texas. - WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (45-0-1, 31KOs) has lashed out at "the excuses" being made by Marco Antonio Rubio (53-6, 46KOs). Chavez won a twelve round unanimous decision over Rubio at the Alamodome.
Following the fight, Rubio and his team made several complaints - including their issues with Chavez's increased overnight mass and they also complained to the WBC about their inability to administer a post-fight drug test on Chavez.
Rubio said "Chavez was too big for me." Chavez blasted Rubio for not having a plan of attack.
"I got tired after the seventh and eighth rounds. My legs got tired from the sacrifice of making weight. I will continue at middleweight and next time I will put more care into making weight. I felt very good throughout the fight. It was one of the toughest I've ever had," Chavez said
"Rubio was a fighter looking for a single punch, so from the beginning I worked my way in and won the fight round by round. Rubio was fighting not get knocked out. I took all my experience and I beat him clearly."
Two of the boxers being mentioned for Julio's next fight are Andy Lee (27-1, 19KOs) and Antonio Margarito (38-8, 27KOs).
"I'm ready for anyone they to put in front of me. Margarito is a good fighter and it would be a great fight," Chavez said.
