Experienced Mexican coach Ignacio "Nacho" Beristáin is hoping to travel Sunday afternoon to Los Angeles, California, where he plans to meet WBC former middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. to outline a possible plan for his return.
Beristáin, who tonight will be in Ecatepec, State of Mexico, in the corner of world champion Yésica "Kika" Chávez in her bout against Esmeralda Moreno, already has his bags ready to speak with Chavez Jr. Californian soil - about the possibility of staging a fight at the end of November or in December.
Nacho trained Chavez Jr. for the first time this past May, when the 'Son of a Legend' dropped down to a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds for a showdown with Mexican rival Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. In that fight, Chavez Jr. killed his body to get down to the weight and had nothing to offer in the fight - where he was dominated over twelve rounds at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Despite the outcome of the last fight, Chavez Jr. expressed his desire to remain under the tutelage of Beristáin in the future.
"I'm leaving on Sunday afternoon. We're supposed to meet there to see what's coming up for his career. We're going to meet in Los Angeles and from there we'll see what's coming up for him or he'll tell me what he's up to," Beristáin said to ESPN Deportes.
"I do not know what we're going to do, they just summoned me and I have not spoken to him. I hope that once he is there he will tell me his plans: if he is going to return before the end of the year and if he is going to come to Mexico City to train or think about training in California.
A source close to Chavez Jr. said that if he returns this year, he would not do so until December and at the super middleweight limit of 168 pounds - where the Mexican boxer is eager to fight for a world title.
