As reported on Saturday, Promociones del Pueblo announced that former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32KOs) would make his return on July 18th against Marcos Reyes (33-2, 24KOs).

After more than a year off, Chavez Jr. returned to the ring last month and was stopped by top light heavyweight contender Andrzej Fonfara in nine rounds. The fight with Reyes is going to take place at super middleweight. Chavez admitted after his last fight that a move to 175-pounds, after being a middleweight for most of his career, was a big mistake.

Reyes lost a ten round majority decision last year to Abie Han and came back in January to win a decision over countryman David Lopez.

According to Osvaldo Küchle, director of Promociones del Pueblo, they were trying to get Matthew Macklin but those discussions presented issues because Macklin is not willing to face Chavez beyond a catch-weight of 164-pounds. Chavez Jr. says the fight with Reyes has yet to be finalized and negotiations are ongoing.

BoxingScene.com also reported on Saturday that Julio was looking for a new trainer and Robert Garcia was his preferred choice. For his April return, he had used veteran coach Joe Goossen, but claims there was some sort of issue that happened.

Chavez has now made it official, announcing on Twitter that he hired Garcia.

"For my next fight, my official trainer will be Robert Garcia," Chavez Jr. wrote.

Garcia trains a stable of known fighters, like Marcos Maidana, Brandon Rios, Mikey Garcia and several others.

"It's something that I've had in mind for a while. I have my uncle Rodolfo (Chavez), Vladimir Baldenebro and Luis Cornejo, and I think [Garicia] would be a great addition," said Chavez Jr. to ESPN Deportes.
