Former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. appeared on the program A los Golpes and discussed his upcoming fight with Andrzej Fonfara on April 18th. The fight is taking place at a catch-weight, reportedly at 172-pounds. The location, American/Mexico television networks and venue are still unknown.
There is still an ongoing legal fight between Chavez and promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, who claims the boxer still owes his company one more fight. Chavez, who signed a recent deal with manager Al Haymon, maintains he is a promotional 'free agent.'
"The fight on April 18 is not going to stop. There is a [legal situation] that my lawyers are handling. The fight on April 18 is a fact. I'm happy where I am, things are going well. Bob Arum can say a thousand things.....that he's going to make the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight, that there is one more fight left, that I have a contract," Chavez said.
"I have no contract. The reality is different, and the reality is that the fight is announced and when contracts are signed the [location/venue] will be officially announced."
