Chakhkiev, Boytsov, Menzer Win Bouts in Hamburg

By Alexey Sukachev

Hamburg, Germany - 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist Rakhim Chakhkiev (11-0, 9 KOs) looked as sensational as ever in dominating and knocking out the extremely durable American cruiserweight and 1999 Houston world champion Michael Simms (21-15-2, 13 KOs). Chakhikev, 28, has improved his skills over the past twelve months. He dropped Simms twice with some huge shots before putting him down for the count in the fourth round. Simms, 37, was stopped for the first time in his lengthy career.

---------------------------

Highly regarded heavyweight Denis Boytsov (29-0, 24 KOs) returned to the ring after almost a year off due to a bad hand injury, and looked rather rusty in his sixth-round TKO win over hapless American journeyman Matthew Greer (14-7, 13 KOs). The WBO #4, WBA/WBC #6 and IBF #7 ranked heavyweight, still just 25 years of age, was rocked a couple of times before finishing off Greer in non-inspiring fashion. Boytsov is still young but prone to injuries which doesn't help this talented slugger much. If he heals his traumas, the future can still be quite bright.

---------------------------

Ina Menzer (26-1, 10 KOs), a former multi-title world champion in the featherweight division, kicked off the televized portion of Universum's night of boxing, with a convincing display of pugilistic skills against American Ela Nunez (9-11-1, 2 KOs). Menzer got a well-deserved unanimous decision over eight rounds: 80-72 and 79-73 (twice). Nunez lost her sixth bout in a row.

Just watched the Rakhim Chakhkiev- Michael Simms bout. By the looks of him Chakhkiev must be watching footage of early Tyson fights. His style, albeit southpaw, is very much imitative of Mike Tyson. His gloves are held high and touch…
