Carson Jones Shocked Purdy Wants a War in The UK

Lee Purdy will defend his IBF international welterweight title against former Kell Brook victim Carson Jones in December.

Brook made his first defence of the same belt against the American In July, winning a nail-biting points decision after Jones gave him the toughest fight of his career.

The Sheffield boxer promptly vacated the strap as he closes in on an IBF world title shot, allowing Purdy to step up and beat Argentinian Gumersindo Carrasco earlier this month.

Jones is ranked number seven with the IBF and claiming his scalp would be a feather in the cap of Purdy, who stopped Carrasco inside four rounds at Alexandra Palace.

"I took my chance against Carrasco with style and I plan to do the same against Jones," said Purdy.

"He fights a bit like me, loves to have a tear-up and I think this could be a great fight, and if I win it I'll am likely to move into the top five of the IBF."

However, Jones is confident he will return to the United States with the belt this time.

"I honestly cannot believe he wants to fight me considering what I did to one of his stable mates," said Jones. "But I am glad to fight back in UK and think I am on my way to becoming the UK's favorite new adopted son."

Promoter Eddie Hearn is promising a Christmas treat for fight fans with Purdy and Jones topping a great bill with the date and venue to be confirmed soon, along with the rest of the undercard.

"I really think this could be one to remember," said Hearn. "Lee and his team have fancied the fight with Carson for a while now and when I made the approach it was accepted instantly.

"It's pretty obvious what kind of fight this is going to be, an out and out barn burner and a chance for Lee to really make his name on the world stage."

Purdy-Jones is going to be a war! I'm really looking forward to this fight and I think Jones will take it but not without entertaining us all first!

Why not? Purdy might as well get a big fight. I don't think many will have thought he'd be in a position like this. And Jones is pretty rudimentary so style-wise he should be ok. But Jones should be too tough. Good fight though!

Props to Purdy for making this match. Jones is always dangerous.
