Former WBO welterweight champion, Carlos "El Indio" Quintana, will have a tough test on October 29 at the Coliseum Mario 'Quijote' Morales. A deal is close to being reached for Quintana to face strong-hitter Jorge 'Destroyer' Melendez in one of three featured fights on the 24th. Annual Convention of the World Boxing Organization.
Quintana (28-3, 22 KO's), back at 154-pounds, claims the president of the WBO, Francisco 'Paco' Valcarcel, promised him a title shot if it comes out unscathed from this fight. Meléndez (20-2-1, 20 KO'), however, is preparing ike never before.
"I'm grateful because Quintana could have picked an easier fight, but he decided on me which I appreciate," he said.
Meanwhile, Jose Bonilla, Quintana's coach, said his boxer has not yet signed a contract for the fight.
"That is what we are working on, but nothing is signed yet. We are talking about it," Bonilla said.
