Argentinian fighters Lucas Matthysse (35-3, 33KOs) and Luis Carlos Abregu (36-1, 29KOs) held nothing back during sparring sessions to prepare for their upcoming fights. Lucas will have a difficult bout against WBC silver super lightweight champion Roberto "Masssa" Ortiz on September 6th , while Luis is fighting on November 22 in Macau against an opponent yet to be named. The representative of Abregu, Pablo Martinez said: "They are having hard sparring sessions, and that's very useful for the fight that Carlos will have in Macau."

Abregu has won seven in a row since losing a twelve round decision to Timothy Bradley in 2010. Those wins include victories over Thomas Dulorme and Antonin Decarie. Abregu wants to get back on HBO and one fighter he would like to trade punches with is Brandon Rios (31-2-1, 23KOs), who moved up to welterweight in November and lost a twelve round decision to Manny Pacquiao.

Estadio Delmi, Salta, Salta, Argentina - Hard punching welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregu (36-1, 29 KOs) came back strong after rehabbing a hand injury, and stopped previously undefeated Jean Carlos Prada (30-1-1, 21 KOs) the eight round. Abregu has been inactive for nearly a year, after defeating Antonin Decarie last April. Abregu dominated Prada in the contest and saw himself on the end of a controversial knockdown when he was off-balance in the seventh, but he came back in the eight to pound Prada against the ropes with power punches until the referee jumped in to wave things off.

Luis Carlos Abregú (35-1, 28 KOs) will make his return to the ring on April 4 against unbeaten Jean Carlos Prada (30-0-1, 21 KOs) of Venezuela. The bout will take place in Abregú's hometown of Salta, Argentina with the plan being a return to the United States should he emerge victorious. Abregú was last seen on the undercard of the Sergio Martínez-Martin Murray bill with victory over Antoine Decarie before a hand injury and subsequent operation put an end to his 2013 campaign.

The start of a new year usually heralds self-promises coupled with declarations about the 12 months ahead. In the case of Luis Carlos Abregú, the Argentine’s determination can be heard through his voice as he states his intentions for 2014. After capturing the attention of the boxing world with his stoppage victory over much touted Puerto Rican talent, Thomas Dulorme, Abregú continued his ascent with a solid victory back in Argentina last April over Antoine Decarie before a persistent injury to his right hand saw the end for his 2013 exploits. He subsequently was forced to have an operation to correct the problem and is now training again with view to a return in March.

Welterweight contender Luis Carlos Abregú (35-1, 28KOs) today informed BoxingScene that he will be out of action until 2014. Abregú recently discussed the possibilty of hand surgery in an interview with this writer and evidently decided to go ahead with the operation 15 days ago. The hard hitting Argentine is currently recuperating and hopes to be back in the ring as soon as posible. He was last seen in April, winning a hard-fought decision over Antonin Decarie as part of the Sergio Martinez-Martin Murray undercard.
