Edison Reynoso, manager and trainer of Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (44-1-1, 31KOs), says the boxer's recovery is going very well for his planned return in May of 2015. He was set to fight against Joshua Clottey on December 6th in Texas, but withdrew with an ankle injury.
The rehabilitation process is being handled by a specialist in San Diego. Canelo's team is targeting a very high profile fight against WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto. Canelo's trainer hopes the rehab process is done by mid-December for them to start training in January.
"We will go to San Diego in mid-November to San Diego to continue the rehabilitation until mid-December and return to Mexico for Christmas and New Year's, and return the first or second week to San Diego to begin our preparation to fight in May," said Reynoso to ESPN Deportes.
"[Golden Boy President Oscar De La Hoya is] in charge of [our fight negotiations], and up until this point he has not told us anything, but we know that there are important fights coming, fights that have long been discussed."
