The referee for the Sept. 14 junior-middleweight title fight between Canelo Alvarez Floyd Mayweather at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas will be Kenny Bayless.
The other candidates to be the third man in the ring for that bout were Robert Byrd, Jay Nady and Tony Weeks.
The judges, meanwhile, will be Dave Moretti and C.J. Ross of Nevada and Craig Metcalfe of Canada.
The other candidates to score that bout were Adalaide Byrd, Burt Clements, Richard Houck, Robert Hoyle, Patricia Morse-Jarman and Glenn Trowbridge of Nevada; Anek Hongtongkam of Thailand; and Jurgen Langos of Germany.
There were no objections to these names from either fighter’s camp.
Bayless has been the referee for three of Mayweather’s previous fights, according to BoxRec.com. That website shows Bayless as being the ref for his win over Shane Mosley in 2010, his win over Oscar De La Hoya in 2007, and in his pro debut victory in 1996 over Roberto Apodaca. He has not worked any of Alvarez’s fights.
Moretti has been a judge for six Mayweather fights, including his 117-111 scorecard for Mayweather against Miguel Cotto in 2012, his 119-109 scorecard for Mayweather against Mosley, his 119-108 scorecard for Mayweather against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2009, and his 116-112 scorecard for Mayweather against Zab Judah in 2006, according to BoxRec.com. He also was a judge for Mayweather’s stoppage wins against Ricky Hatton in 2007 and Arturo Gatti in 2005. He has not worked any of Alvarez’s fights.
Ross is listed as being a judge for Mayweather’s sixth pro fight, a knockout of Bobby Giepert in 1996. She also had a 118-110 scorecard for Alvarez against Mosley in 2012.
Metcalfe is not listed as having worked a bout featuring either fighter.
