On May 6th a showdown between Mexican stars, Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will take place on HBO Pay-Per-View. The two fighters will collide at a catch-weight of 164.5-pounds.
But for now which venue will host the fight is still unknown. But it's clear that Las Vegas and Texas would be prime locations to host this event.
Golden Boy Promotions President, Eric Gomez, told BoxingScene.com - "We're having talks, we're having meetings and they are going well. [Golden Boy President] Oscar [De La Hoya] had a conference call [on Friday] with Jerry Jones [owner of the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium]. He's very, very interested. He's been very aggressive. We had a great experience with him last time out."
The home of the Cowboys in Arlington, Texas was where Alvarez faced Liam Smith back in September and had over 50,000 in attendance.
"So there's obviously a relationship there but we have great relationship with the MGM [Grand] and they've been contacting us and and we're set to meet with them early next week and they've been very aggressive. They want the fight," explained Gomez.
Back last May, the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas opened up it's doors as a boxing venue as 'Canelo' headlined the show and blasted out Amir Khan in six rounds.
"It's positive, it's very, very positive," said Gomez. "The fan reaction, you guys in the media have reacted to the fight. It's a big fight. It's two great venues and there's a lot of intrigue and I think style-wise it's going to make a great, great fight."
