Now that a ruling has come down in the lawsuit involving All-Star Boxing and Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs), Golden Boy Promotions can now plan his future inside the ring.
The legal battle with All Star, over the promotional rights to Canelo, had been raging for several years and the Miami trial finally finished up on Monday.
"We're looking forward now and planning not only the rest of the year for 'Canelo' but the next years of fights for him and we're going to get to the business of promoting and doing our job, obviously continue to build his legacy," said Eric Gomez, the Sr. Vice President of Golden Boy on Wednesday morning.
And Gomez says he will be calling Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 Promotions, regarding WBA/IBO/IBF/WBC middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs).
"I've talked to him a couple times, we texted back and forth and I have a call with him later today and yeah, we're going to continue talking," said Gomez, who confirms that Alvarez, who just recently vacated the WBC middleweight title will be returning in the early fall. "He's going to be fighting in September."
As for who and where, Gomez states,"Everything is open right now. Obviously we were pre-occupied with this other stuff but now we're going to get to work, start planning a September fight and the rest of the schedule for the rest of the year."
For about a month, the litigation was the main focus of everyone involved.
"I think there was a lot of speculation, a lot of uncertainties but it was something we had to handle, we had to take care off and it's something we took very, very seriously. We had to take care of that,"explained Gomez.
