Canelo is Proud of His Resume, Says Golovkin Fight Will Happen

BoxingScene.com was recently granted an exclusive interview with WBC middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (46-1) who was recently at PROJECT Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center where he has a booth displaying his new clothing line. Alvarez faces former champion Amir Khan (31-3) on May 7th in a fight distributed by HBO pay-per-view.

The Jalisco, Mexico resident has received criticism for choosing the welterweight as his next opponent but feels that his resume, which includes victories over Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, Austin Trout, and James Kirkland, speaks for itself.

"I feel at 25-years-old I have fought the best fighters of this era. I have always wanted to fight the best guys out there. I am content with what I have done and what I will continue to do with my career," Alvarez stated.

Hardcore boxing fans have been clamoring for Canelo to face WBA/IBF/IBO/WBC interim champion Gennady "Triple G" Golovkin in an unification showdown. The WBC recently granted both fighters an interim fight and said that they must face each other by September.

Alvarez has stated before that the fight will happen and he reiterated that it isn't a matter of if, but a matter of when the fight will take place.

"That is a fight that will happen soon. That is a fight that I still want. That is a fight that has to happen. That is a big fight that obviously needs some time to negotiate but we will definitely do it," said Alvarez.

It took over five years for the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super-fight to take place and while the action in the ring may have left a lot to be desired, the decision to let the fight marinate made it bigger and more lucrative for all involved.

Using that example, I asked Canelo if he felt a GGG showdown would be a bigger event if it was pushed back a year or two.

"Exactly," Canelo said in agreement. "All of us feel that in one or two years that the fight will be even bigger. But - we are here to fight and the day that they say the fight is made we will be ready to step in the ring."

Alvarez finished our conversation by thanking his fans for all of the support he has received during his career.

"I want to thank all of the fans for the support they have given me and I will be back in the ring on May 7th for them again. They have asked for Team Canelo gear and now they can get it at canelostore.com," Alvarez told BoxingScene.com.

You don't like GGG so you just want whatever puts him in a bad position (168 and 155). Whereas I want what I think is fair (168 and 160). But **** me for thinking like that. Right, but because your opinion of what is " fair ", happens to be just that, your opinion..... and because neither of our opinions really count for much on the larger boxing landscape..... let's just agree to disagree and leave it there ^^ I respect your opinion, but not the motivation, and I will just leave it at that. My opinion is..... because Golovkin recently stated that he can beat anyone at 154, AND because he has used weight manipulation himself, he should at least be willing to negotiate with Canelo. And the main motivation for that opinion, is disappointment..... because despite publicly stating that he can beat anyone from 154-168 Golovkin has avoided 2 fights within that weight range and used weight as an excuse on BOTH occasions. I just want to him to start living up to his OWN hype. Let's just leave it there, and agree to disagree..... I understand your opinion, I'm sure you understand mine.

..... you (conveniently) think that Canelo should right-the-wrongs within boxing all by himself..... even if it disadvantages him against a opponent who is more-than-willing to use those same tactics himself..... and I do not. The rest of the rubbish in your post are the exact same slimy fanboy excuses that we have come to know and love :lol1: I KNOW that you don't give a fk about the integrity of boxing, you exuberant fanboy clown...... so, I KNOW what's up with you It's all about motivation. Go play with your Golovkin doll you halfwit. Wanting GGG to fight at 155 speaks nothing about the integrity of boxing. All it does is encourage an issue that you yourself don't agree with . You don't like CW fights but are encouraging fighters to fight at a CW. That does NOTHING to solve the problem. YOU are the one encouraging CWs, regardless of the reason, not me. And again, you bring up things that have not even been mentioned. Good job troll. But sure I'm a fanboy for saying Canelo should fight GGG at 160 and GGG should fight Ward at 168. Whereas you are perfect for asking a 168 Ward fight and a 155 Canelo fight just for the purpose of wanting GGG to fight at a disadvantage regardless of the situation. Doesn't change the fact that it CONTRADICTS, regardless of what happens first. I get the whole "giving what's coming to him" mentality. That doesn't change the fact of the matter. At the end of the day, asking GGG To fight at 155 contradicts with what you believe in, which is that CW fights shouldn't exist.. There you go and thanks for proving my point. All you care about is Golovkin. I would say the EXACT same thing if we were talking about ANY OTHER FIGHTER. In fact, you can replace the roles of Ward, GGG and Canelo right now and I would still look at the situation the same way. You are only saying this because you don't like GGG. YOU are the one making it about GGG. I could give a **** who the fighter is. I'm not defending his actions. I actually haven't been the past few pages. What I've been doing was criticizing your actions. What are you talking about? I have already corrected your (conveniently inaccurate) timeline. It happened in this order..... 1) catchweights are obviously completely unnecessary 2) Golovkin attempted to disadvantage Ward on the scales, which is a b1tch-move 3) I laughed and said " chew lettuce b1tch ", when a real A-side gave Hypekin a taste of his own medicine You can spin it how you wish, we all know what happened. It has nothing to do with GGG having a disadvantage or not. Also, that's for proving my point. So you are only asking about 155 because GGG is at a disadvatange. You're the one making the discussion about GGG, not me, because what I said applies to all fighters regardless of GGG. If you simply said GGG must fight at 155 as a "what's coming to him" because he asked for 164 for Ward, then sure.
