THE SUPERFIGHT WILL HAPPEN ... because Canelo Alvarez (47-1-1, 33KOs) says he WILL fight Gennady Golovkin (35-0, 32KOs) -- telling TMZ Sports, "It's gonna happen very soon."
Canelo is currently in Dallas gearing up for this weekend's big fight against Liam Smith -- the undefeated WBO light middleweight champion.
If he can emerge victorious, GGG will be waiting on the other end.
"There's no doubt about it that fight's gonna happen," Alvarez told us through a translator.
Some critics -- and even other boxers -- have accused Canelo of "ducking" Golovkin.
To that, Canelo says BS. The Mexican superstar feels that he's fought the best fighters in the world - like Floyd Mayweather Jr., Miguel Cotto, Erislandy Lara, and Austin Trout.
"I'm 26 years old, I've never ducked nobody. I've fought the best in the world, I've never ran from nobody," Canelo said.
Alvarez says he currently considers himself the best fighter in the world -- and he plans to prove it yet again on Saturday.
Canelo vs. Smith, a 12-round fight for the WBO Junior Middleweight World Championship, is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Frank Warren and Canelo Promotions. Gabriel Rosado vs. Willie Monroe, Jr. is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Banner Promotions and Diego De La Hoya vs. Luis Orlando Del Valle is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Roc Nation Sports.
