Gennady Golovkin's victory over Willie Monroe Jr. did little to impress Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez. Golovkin scored three knockdowns before securing a sixth round knockout to retain his WBA/IBO middleweight titles and his 20th consecutive knockout victory. Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) dropped Monroe twice in the second round and again in the sixth round. After rising up in the sixth.

Afterwards, Golovkin called out Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto, who defends his belt against Daniel Geale next month at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Golovkin, who also holds the WBC-interim title at 160-pounds, is the mandatory challenger to Cotto.

"I respect Miguel Cotto. After his fight, I'll wait. I'm ready right now to fight Miguel Cotto and Canelo Alvarez. I respect them," Golovkin said.

Canelo replied via Twitter and he didn't appear to be impressed by GGG's performance:

“When the day comes for me to move up to 160 I will face the best in the division. Sincerely and with humility I don’t see any real competition for me. Greetings to everyone!”
