Canelo Would Love To Face Sergio Martinez on May 4

By Miguel Rivera

Mexico's Saul "Canelo" Alvarez has asked Golden Boy Promotions for a fight with Argentine boxer Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez. Canelo, the WBC's champion at junior middleweight, set the date of May 4 for his next fight. Martinez has the WBC's title at 160-pounds, but doesn't have a problem with moving down in weight.

There are three fighters on Canelo's list, with the two others being Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Canelo says that he asked Golden Boy's President, Oscar De La Hoya, to speak with Lou DiBella, the promoter of Martinez.

"We had a meeting with people of Golden Boy Promotions and we agreed that our next fight is on May 4. The first option is Maravilla Martinez," explained Canelo (41-0-1, 30 KOs).

The same night that Canelo destroyed Josesito Lopez, "Maravilla" (50-2-2, 28 KOs) reclaimed his title with a decision win over Canelo's countryman Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
Canelo is a big body puncher too. I don't think this is a good fight to take if your going to drain yourself. Martinez can make similar money schooling Chavez Jr.'s ass again at the weight he's comfortable at.
Martinez…
The only way I think Canelo wins is if Martinez is severely weight-drained.
Canelo is a big body puncher too. I don't think this is a good fight to take if your going to drain yourself. Martinez can make similar…
