Canelo is Improving on His Speed To Shut Down Lara

As part of his preparation in San Diego, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) is focused on improving his speed for the upcoming fight with WBA 'regular' junior middleweight champion Erislandy Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) of Cuba, taking place on July 12th from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Under the guidance of his coaches, Jose and Edison Reynoso, Canelo is going through special exercises to improve his speed.

"Lara is very fast, so I'm training my legs, especially in the area of speed and throwing fast combinations, so I can fight smart against the Cuban, who had a great amateur career. The fight will not be world title, so I'll have an extra pound to make 155 pounds, as I had in my previous fight with Alfredo Angulo. Right now I have to get used to the Cuban's southpaw style," Canelo said to Vangard Deportes.

I'm kinda happy this fight did not happen when I wanted it too(instead of the Trout fight)..I think Alvarez is a much better and more(keyword)experienced fighter now..This is a 50/50 fight imo,I'm going with Lara..Nothing will surprise me in this…

If Alvarez can close the distance on Lara, he'll mess him up. I just doubt he'll be able to do so consistently. He might, I certainly won't count out the possibility.
