Canelo: I'm Back on July 12 at MGM, Offer Sent To Lara

By Ryan Burton

Moments ago Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (43-1-1, 31KOs) announced via Instagram/Twitter that he will return to the ring on July 12th in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the same venue that he stopped Alfredo Angulo on March 8th.  Canelo also tweeted that he has various potential opponents and that Erislandy Lara is his preference for his summer return. He said that he has already offered the fight to Lara's team and that he is just waiting to see if they will "stop running their mouth" and accept the offer.

Lara (19-1-2, 12KOs) is scheduled to return to the ring on May 2nd against former champion Ishe Smith and would have to get through that fight unscathed in order to face Alvarez just 10 weeks later.

Here is the original tweet in Spanish:

Mi siguiente pelea será el día 12 de julio en el MGM de las Vegas nevada... Tenemos varias opciones como rival, una de ellas y es la primera y es Lara... Ya se le ofreció y solo falta que acepte y deje de hablar tanta saludos a todos

[QUOTE=jrrod02;14405821]Don't be misleading. Canelo approached Kirkland in late May for a fight that would be in September. He approached Kirkland after he'd had successful shoulder surgery in April and his team had gone on record saying Kirkland would be ready…
