Tom Loeffler, who promotes IBF, IBO, WBC, WBA middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0-1, 33 KOs), told BoxingScene.com on Sunday morning that he would be speaking to Golden Boy Promotions regarding a possible rematch between the middleweight beltholder and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (49-1-2, 34 KOs).

The pair fought to a disputed draw this past Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. One judge had it 118-110 for Canelo, with another scoring 115-113 for Golovkin and a 114-114 draw.

Eric Gomez, the President of Golden Boy confirmed to BoxingScene in a recent interview - "Yes, we talked already about three times today and we both feel the same. The best way to to go is the rematch - a direct rematch - so we agreed to sit down later this week and start discussing is."

The first fight contract between the two contained a rematch clause that was held by Alvarez, in the event of a Golovkin victory but Gomez noted - "there is a rematch clause in our agreement but regardless it merits a rematch, it was so close."

Gomez added - ''You had people who had it for 'Canelo' winning, there's other people who had it for Golovkin winning, there's people who had it a draw. It was a close fight - it could've gone either way. But it delivered. The fight was great, it was fun. Think about those last three rounds how incredible it was. Everyone was on their feet."

So when would Alvarez-Golovkin II take place?

"It won't be this year, it will be some time next year. We'll sit down and start discussing it," said Gomez, who says his company will sit down and discuss things with 'Canelo' and his management.

Canelo stated that his next fight would take place in May of 2018, during Cinco De Mayo weekend.
