Canelo Feels Ready For The Mayweather vs Cotto Winner

By Luis Sandoval

When Saul “Canelo” Alvarez steps in the ring against Sugar Shane Mosley on May 5th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, NV, he will be part of a long list of Mexican opponents Mosley has faced throughout his career. In fact, while Mosley is beloved and often considered to be one of their own by the Mexican fan base due to his fighting style, Mosley is undefeated when it comes to facing Mexican fighters.

It’s a known fact that has resurfaced again and Canelo addressed it on the most recent edition of BoxingScene’s official audio show The Boxing Lab. Canelo was asked if he knew about Mosley’s winning streak against his countrymen and what his thoughts were.

“Yes, I know about it because I’ve seen Mosley’s career. I’ve seen a lot of his fights. Why? Because I know he’s a complete fighter and I like to learn from other fighters. I know he’s beaten all the Mexican fighters. I know he’s a great fighter and it will be a great but difficult fight. But we will win and be the first Mexican [to beat him]” said Alvarez.

At one point earlier this year, Alvarez was being considered as a possible opponent for Floyd Mayweather for May 5th when negotiations with Manny Pacquiao once again fell by the wayside. Miguel Cotto ended up getting the call and Canelo settled for a co-feature spot on the same card against Shane Mosley.

If Alvarez gets passed Mosley, there’s a possibility that a fight with him and Mayweather may come into discussions again. While Canelo would want nothing more than to get a big fight, he also is making sure he’s not overlooking his current assignment.

“Yes, definitely. That’s what I’m looking for; those types of fights” said Alvarez in response to a question on whether he would be ready and willing to face the winner between Mayweather and Cotto.

“Obviously I first have this important fight [with Mosley]. We have to get passed this fight and God willing we’ll see what’s next. But right now we are 100% focused on Mosley” expressed Canelo.

if Canelo really wants to fight Mayweather down the line, he should fight K9 for the IBF title, therefore he can offer Money the chance @ his 1st undisputed title
