Canelo Feels He's Fast And Accurate Like Floyd

By Luis Sandoval

We are only a few days away from the biggest fight of the year as Floyd Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez will put their undefeated records on the line and square off at the MGM Grand this Saturday night. Its a classic case of youth vs experience as Floyd is Alvarez's senior by 13 years and has been on this stage countless times before.

Much like all of Mayweather's opponents, Alvarez is a heavy underdog going into this fight as most are picking Mayweather to continue his streak of dominance and remain undefeated. Floyd has proven he is either too fast, too smart or simply too good for his rivals and Alvarez will be facing the same things that have befuddled 44 previous opponents. Many point to Mayweather's speed and accuracy as two of his strongest traits but according to Canelo, he feels he possesses the same advantages.

"I have that too. I also have speed and I'm also accurate. I do recognize Floyd has those skills and is a good counter puncher, fast and intelligent. But that's what I prepared for" said Alvarez.

Another thing Floyd is known for is his impeccable defensive skill set as landing a clean shot on him is difficult and sometimes even seems impossible. Ironically, Alvarez himself tried to incorporate some of Floyd's style when he fought Alfonso Gomez. While Alvarez admits he did use some of Mayweather's moves, he doesn't consider him a teacher by any means and feels Floyd's defense can be penetrated.

"Yes, in that fight I did some things like Floyd because that fight lend itself for me to do that. But I never tried to imitate him or considered him a my teacher; those were Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, and Gilberto Roman. I liked watching all those fighters and also Ray Leonard. Those are the guys I really watched. But I think his I can penetrate Floyd's defense" informed Alvarez.

Its safe to say we won't be seeing Alvarez try to incorporate the shoulder roll in this fight but he says the way to beat Mayweather will be revealed on Saturday night.
