Ronnie Shields is familiar with both Canelo Alvarez and Alfredo Angulo; he was the trainer to Kermit Cintron when Cintron lost via technical knockout to Alvarez in November 2011, and he cornered Erislandy Lara for Lara’s win over Angulo in a back-and-forth battle in June 2013.
Alfredo Angulo lost his last fight to Erislandy Lara by technical knockout and has been stopped in two of his past four fights. That doesn’t make him any less deserving, according to Richard Schaefer, of his March 8 pay-per-view fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. Schaefer, Golden Boy Promotions’ chief executive officer, considers Angulo’s history of participating in exciting fights more important than the rugged Mexican’s win-loss record (22-3, 18 KOs).

Junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18KOs) has given high praise to Amir Khan, and WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward, for helping him prepare for the upcoming fight with former WBA/WBC 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs). More importantly, Angulo ensures that his left eye is 100%. During last June's fight with Erislandy Lara, the fight was on the table in the championship rounds, and Lara had been down twice, when Angulo suffered an injury to his left eye in the tenth round and could not continue.
WBC junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) is preparing for a tough night. He expects Alfredo "El Perro" Angulo to immediately charge with knockout intentions on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Angulo has pledged to bring the fight Canelo, by throwing a high volume arsenal of power punch combinations from the very first bell. Angulo (22-3, 18KOs) is skeptical that Canelo can deal with the pressure of a hard punching junior middleweight.
Junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo is going to check Saul "Canelo" Alvarez with hard punches when the first bell rings on March 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Angulo is working on speed and landing power punch combinations on the former WBA/WBC champion.
