Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer expects a full house on March 8th, when Mexican junior middleweights Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-1-1, 30KOs) and Alfredo Angulo (22-3, 18KOs) go to war in a Showtime Pay-Per-View headliner from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
There was a pre-sale for tickets and nearly 3,000 of them have already been snapped up. The tickets officially go on sale this coming Friday and the official press conference is scheduled to take place next week.
The undercard is in the process of being finalized, with Golden Boy matchmakers putting the finishing touches on a fight between Canelo's older brother, Ricardo "Dinamita" Alvarez, and WBC interim-lightweight champion Omar "Panterita" Figueroa. Another fight being worked on is a super bantamweight clash between WBC champ Leo Santa Cruz and mandatory challenger Cristian Mijares. And a war between former champion Jorge Linares and tough Japanese contender Nihito Arakawa.
"I'm working on finalizing March 8th at the MGM. It's going to be a hell of a lineup. I'm trying to finalize these fights before we have the press conference next week for the Canelo-Angulo fight. Today's pre-sale was unbelievable. I think close to 3,000 tickets were already sold and the official on-sale is on Friday," Schaefer told BoxingScene.com.
