Canelo Alvarez (46-1-1) is scheduled to return to the ring on May 7th against Amir Khan in Las Vegas, Nevada in a fight distributed by HBO pay-per-view. The plan is for the fight to open up the new T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas strip.

The 25-year-old Mexican superstar is set to open training camp soon and made a special trip to Las Vegas to attend the Magic Convention this week where he is promoting his new line of clothing at the PROJECT Las Vegas event.

Alvarez was last seen in the ring in November when he captured the WBC middleweight title with an unanimous decision victory over former four-division champion Miguel Cotto.

During an exclusive interview with BoxingScene.com, Canelo said that while the victory over Cotto was a great victory, he stopped short of saying that it was the biggest win of his career.

"I wouldn't say that it was the biggest win.  I can't really say that just one fight was my biggest.  All of the fights together make my career and there are a lot of good fights.  Though that was obviously a big fight and a special night for me," said Alvarez.

The Guadalajara, Mexico native surprised many when Khan was announced as his next opponent.  The former champion from Bolton, UK currently campaigns as a welterweight and will make the jump to a catchweight of 155 pounds for the pay-per-view showdown.

Canelo said that his team, which consists of Chepo and Eddy Reynoso, worked with Golden Boy and HBO to put the fight together.

"The negotiations went very fast.  My team worked hard on it.  They were working on my next opponent like they always do and they came up with Amir Khan.  For me, I will get in the ring and fight like I always do," Alvarez explained.

Considering all of the opponents available with names such as Gabriel Rosado and Willie Monroe Jr. having been mentioned, Alvarez felt that Khan had the most name recognition and would ultimately lead to better pay-per-view success.

"I think this was the best fight at this time.  Obviously HBO was involved, along with Golden Boy and my managers and that was the name they came up with.  That is the biggest fight that can be made right now.  We know that Khan has a lot of fans and he is a very fast and aggressive fighter.  We know that this is going to be a difficult fight but we are ready for the challenge," Alvarez told BoxingScene.com.
