Shane Cameron insists his lack of time in the ring will have no bearing on next month's heavyweight bout with Brian Minto.

The 38-year-old American has fought six times in the last two years, compared to Cameron's two fights.

Cameron's last fight was a loss to Danny Green late last year, but the kiwi heavyweight is playing down the impacts of a break from the sport.

"I've had close to a year off before, I still come back and clinch victory, I may have been out of the ring but I haven't been out of the gym, still been training, still keeping fit."

Cameron says he feels at ease after switching back from cruiserweight to heavyweight level.

Cameron will return to heavyweight fighting when takes on American Brian Minto next month, in what will be the Kiwi's first fight in more than a year.

Cameron says the switch feels more natural.

"A lot more comfortable than cruiserweight. I thought that cruiserweight was a good weight for me, but if I look at all my fights as cruiserweight then I've never really fought the best at cruiserweight, I've always had all my best fights at heavyweight so I feel more comfortable at my natural weight which is what I am now."
