Former champion Ivan Calderon suffered a blow this past weekend, or did he, when Raul "Rayito" Garcia was upset on Saturday night in Mexico. Moises Fuentes pulled off an unexpected split decision victory to capture Garcia's WBO strawweight title. Calderon's next fight is scheduled to be a return to the strawweight division and Garcia was the scheduled opponent for an October fight.

According to Peter Rivera, Vice President of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, the plan is still the same, but opponent will now be Fuentes. There appears to have been a deal in place between Rivera's company and the Mexico-based Zanfer Promotions, that Calderon would fight the winner of the Garcia-Fuentes - regardless of the outcome. The fight is tentative for October 29th at the Coliseum Mario "Quijote" Morales in Guaynabo.

"It does not affect the plan we had originally put together. Everything remains the same, the only thing that changes is the opponent. There was a prior agreement between both companies, as both [Garcia and Fuentes] have the same promoter, that Saturday's result would only change Ivan's opponent [for the date]," said Rivera to Marcos Ortiz.
