Cabellero Signs Contract, Mikey Garcia Defense is On!

By Ryan Burton

BoxingScene.com has been advised that WBA featherweight champion Celestino "Pelenchin" Caballero (36-4, 23KOs) has finally received and signed his contract to face his mandatory challenger Mikey Garcia (28-0, 24KOs), who signed the contract on Wednesday.

There had been confusion between Caballero, and promoter Sampson Lewkowicz, who won the purse bid to stage the fight, in regards to whom the contract needed to be sent to. Caballero advised us that the issue has been resolved.

The contract was sent to Caballero by well known manager/adviser Al Haymon, on behalf of Mayweather Promotions.

"The contract was faxed over to me and I signed it so the fight is on. I am very happy that the fight is signed. I am always in shape and ready to fight," Caballero told BoxingScene.com

Caballero-Garcia takes place on July 28th at the Fantasy Springs Casino  in Indio, California and will be broadcast by Telefutura.

They should have just scheduled this for a week later, not the same week as Guerrero-Aydin which is on SHO, and than SHO could have carried it. Or they could have just put this on the Guerrero-Aydin card. Anyway, if…

That this isn't on a major network undercard is a complete and utter travesty.
