| Caballero Vacates WBA Title, Will Not Fight Walters
By Rick Reeno BoxingScene.com has been advised that WBA "regular" champion Celestino Caballero (36-4, 23KOs) vacated his championship. Caballero was recently ordered to fight mandatory challenger Nicholas Walters (21-0, 17KOs). The WBA held a purse bid a few weeks ago, and Canelo Promotions was the sole bidder, putting down the minimum bid of $120,000 dollars to secure the rights to the featherweight bout - with a 75-25 split in favor of Caballero. Caballero would have received $90,000, which the boxer viewed as an insult. Canelo Promotions, appearing on behalf of Walters' handlers, submitted two dates - December 1 or December 8 in Kingston. "I will not fight for 90 thousand dollars and I wouldn't even do it for 120. Perhaps [they think] I am dying of hunger," Caballero said a few weeks ago. Walters will now face the the highest available contender for the vacant belt. Tags: Celestino Caballero |

good for him. Fu8k them sanctioning bodies. If only EVERY fighter would do the same....WE MAY GET SOME SANITY BACK IN THE SPORT!
Now We will have another paper champion in Walters. He will fight another bum opponent and life will go on as usual! |
