Caballero-Barros Could Head To a Purse Bid on April 28
By Jhonny Gonzalez
The fight between WBA "regular" featherweight champion Jonathan Barros, and mandatory challenger Celestino Caballero, could go to an auction if the two sides are unable agree to a deal. Panamanian Rogelio Espino, who manages Caballero, explained that no formal response has been received from Osvaldo Rivera, manager of Barros. Espino sent over an offer to stage the fight on June 4 in Panama. No response was ever sent back.
"Given the fact that we have not received a response to our offer, we have sent a letter to the WBA to conduct a purse bid, which could take place on Thursday April 28," said Espino. "They want the fight in Argentina, but we want the fight to take place in Panama and sent a counter-offer. We have not received any response. Chances are that we have to go to a purse bid."
