Jean Bedard, President of InterBox, who promote IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute (30-0, 24KOs), has revealed that his company will do everything possible to finalize a deal to fight Carl Froch (28-2, 20KOs) on April 14th in Montreal. Bedard, without presenting too many details, confirmed BoxingScene.com's report from last week, that Showtime is not interested in a Bute-Froch battle. The network, who have Bute under contract for one more fight, prefer an American opponent.
Bedard said his company will pursue a fight with Froch, with or without the involvement of Showtime. InterBox was advised that WBC/WBA Andre Ward would not be ready in time for a Bute fight in April. Ward suffered a hand injury in his Super Six win over Froch in December. InterBox regard Froch, who beat Jean Pascal, Jermain Taylor, Glen Johnson, Arthur Abraham, Andre Dirrell and several others, as a very credible opponent for Bute.
Showtime only presented one name for Froch to face, Andre Dirrell. There is no confirmation from Froch's side, if they would be willing to face Bute without the involvement of Showtime.
