Frank Warren Promotions are due to announce a major fight at a press conference at London’s Upton Park stadium on Tuesday. This news comes hot on the heels of recent Tweets by London’s Kevin Mitchell (33-1, 24KOs) in which he states that his next bout is pencilled in for July. Throw in a mooted July 1 outing for WBO lightweight titlist Ricky Burns (34-2, 9KOs), who has been linked with Mitchell in recent months, and it would appear that all roads lead to a domestic world title showdown at the home of West Ham United F.C.
Indeed, Billy Nelson, who trains the Scottish champion, told Boxingscene earlier this week that he believes a fight with Mitchell would come together as long as The Dagenham-based boxer accepted a reasonable purse offer. Mitchell, 33-1 (24), knows that a showdown with Burns, 34-2 (9), could be his sole chance at a world title this year and it is likely that the 27-year-old has acquiesced over his wage demands and will challenge the 29-year-old WBO title-holder at the home of Mitchell’s favourite football team.
All will be revealed come Tuesday.
