Like oh so many boxing fans, Buddy McGirt wishes the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao would’ve happened a few years ago. Instead, it’s happening — finally, and thankfully — on May 2.
“But it could be a better fight now, being that both guys are a little older and have something to prove,” McGirt said. “I think that Mayweather should win the fight, but I won’t be surprised if Pacquiao beats him.
“I think he’s [Mayweather] the better fighter,” McGirt said. “But he’s 38. His last two fights haven’t been Mayweather, you know what I mean, for whatever reason. But I feel that Mayweather is going to step it up and show that he might be 38 in the age but he’s 30 when it comes to fighting in the ring. Pacquiao has to take Mayweather out of his rhythm. If he doesn’t take him out of his rhythm, he’s not going to beat him.”
What does Mayweather need to do to win?
“Be Mayweather,” McGirt said. “Just throw a little bit more combinations.”
