Buckland Vows To KO Sykes, Theophane's Return is Set

Theophane And Williams Co-Headline At York Hall On 18th September

Miranda Carter  and Bruce Baker have joined forces to co-promote their first event of the new season, ‘Great Expectations’, at the York Hall in Bethnal Green, London on Sunday 18th September 2011

Miranda and Bruce, along with Matchmaker Jim Evans, have put together a mouth watering fight card, co-headlined by British Light Welterweight Champion Ashley ‘Treasure’ Theophane and Southern Area Cruiserweight Champion Leon ‘Solid’ Williams.

Finchley’s Theophane, comes into this fight fresh off a sensational tenth round knockout win over Jason Cook, on the first defense of his title at Wembley back in July.

Streatham’s Williams is also coming off a first title defense knockout win, this time a fourth round KO of Danny Couzens, back in May. On September 18th the Johnny Eames managed and co-trained ‘Solid’ will be facing super tough ‘Fighting Fireman’ Nick Okoth from Battersea.

Heading up the support sees William’s TRAD TKO Gym mate, the sensational Mark Tibbs trained Light Middleweight prospect, Nathan ‘Sugar’ Weise steps up to the plate against Woodford’s Duncan Cottier.

Unbeaten Brixton Heavyweight Ian Lewis, another big hitting knockout artist, will be back in action, against a yet to be named opponent.

Another youngster from Johnny Eames’ TRAD TKO stable of thoroughbreds, Belvedere’s exciting featherweight prospect ‘Saint’ George Jupp, gets his first outing since the highly controversial loss to Raffi Khan back in March. At ‘Great Expectations’ young George will be taking on awkward Welsh southpaw Chuck Jones.

Mitcham’s Danny ‘Cassius’ Connor will be keen to continue his winning ways. The Alec Wilkey coached Welterweight has really turned his career around this year, having notched up two excellent wins over Duane Grimes and Danny Dontchev before the summer break.

A pair of the Capital’s upcoming young Middleweights, Diego Burton and Dalton Miller are both keen to get their first wins of the new season under their belts, as will Light Welter Ideh Ockuku.

Finally, making their debut on the 18th will be Billericay Welterweight Luke ‘Lights Out’ Fowler and Lightweight Francis Maina.

The Miranda Carter and Bruce Baker co-promoted ‘Great Expectations’ takes place at York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Sunday 18th September 2011. Doors open at 2pm and the first bout is at 3pm.

Tickets for ‘Great Expectations’ are on sale now - priced £35 (Unreserved) or £65 (Ringside), book on-line at or in person at The TRAD TKO Gym, Gillian House, Stephenson Street, Canning Town, London E16 4SA. For further information please call 07960 850645.

GARY BUCKLAND insists that he’ll prove his first round KO of Gary Sykes last year was no fluke.

Hatton Promotions super-featherweight star challenges  for the Yorkshireman’s British crown at Sheffield’s Ponds Forge Arena on Saturday September 24.

Cardiff’s Buckland, 25, earned his chance by hammering Sykes in 45 seconds at a Prizefighter tournament last November when he landed the £32,000 winner’s cheque.

Despite that win, many are tipping Sykes to get revenge over the 12 round distance, but Buckland warned: “I am not going to let it slip. I am going out there to do a job.

“People say I caught him cold, but if I catch Sykes again the same thing will happen and he will be knocked out whatever round I land.

“Winning Prizefighter was a big achievement so the next step is to win a Lonsdale belt and Sykes is trying to stop me.”

Buckland has won 23 of his 25 fights. One of his defeats came when John Murray stopped him in the 11th round of a British and European lightweight title thriller in May 2010.

Buckland added: “It was a war against John Murray and he is a great champion. It was a great opportunity and I have learned from it.

“If I can go toe-to-toe with Murray I can do it with anybody.”

Also on the Sheffield bill, former European super-bantamweight champion Rendall Munroe boxes a ten rounder against a selected opponent.

Unbeaten Sheffield boys Richard Towers and Adam Etches face Belarussian opponents. Heavyweight Towers is up against Yuri Bihoutseu while light-middleweight Etches boxes Yauheni Abdurazakau.

Deeside’s exciting light-middleweight Tom Doran boxes another steel city fighter Jezz Wilson over eight rounds.

And the South Yorkshire city’s former Commonwealth light-heavyweight challenger Billy Boyle faces Welsh banger Justyn Hugh.

Manchester’s former amateur star Tommy Stubbs makes his pro debut when he faces, tricky Kuwaiti Anwar Alfadi, who boxes out of Brendan Ingle’s stable.

Another local fighter Scott Jenkins who has sold 300 tickets bids for his second professional win against a selected opponent.

There are some tickets left priced £35, £55 and £75 VIP from 01925 755222. Be quick, this show WILL sell-out.

The card will be screened live by Sky Sports.
