WBA welterweight champion Adrien Broner (27-0, 22KOs) has continued to state that he plans to have "the fans" pick his next opponent. On Saturday he captured his third divisional title with a twelve round split decision over Paulie Malignaggi.
"People are always saying that I pick and choose my opponents. I just fight whoever is put in front of me. So, I'll let the fans choose my next opponent. I'll fight anybody. I'll let the fans decide my next opponent. We'll see who they want me to fight," Broner told BoxingScene.com.
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer told BoxingScene that he would be "on board" if Broner went forward with his plan to allow the fans select his next opponent.
While Broner says he will fight "anyone" the fans would select - he also said "I can't do that" and "negative" when pressed for an answer on whether he would face his idol, Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs), if the pound-for-pound king was selected by the fans.
