NEW YORK – Adrien Broner believes he can continue to make 140 pounds without a problem.

Assuming he can, there’s not a bigger fight for him within the junior welterweight division than a showdown with Terence Crawford. Broner said early Sunday morning in Brooklyn that he would welcome a fight against the undefeated Crawford, assuming they can continue winning.

The 29-year-old Crawford owns the WBC and WBO super lightweight championships.

“He got a great fight coming up,” Broner told a group of reporters outside Barclays Center, where he attended the Shawn Porter-Andre Berto card Saturday night. “I hope he win that fight. He ain’t fighting no bum. And I just want him to keep winning, keep building his resume and keep building his rep. You know, because I’m gonna always do me. My ratings gonna always be there. That’s a future pay-per-view fight. But I ain’t fighting [Crawford] unless they pay me.”

Broner referenced Crawford’s upcoming fight against Felix Diaz. HBO will televise the 12-rounder that’ll match Crawford (30-0, 21 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, against the Dominican Republic’s Diaz (19-1, 9 KOs) on May 20 from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Bob Arum, Crawford’s promoter, has repeatedly said he would be open to working with Al Haymon, Broner’s manager, to make a Crawford-Broner bout, perhaps later this year.

Crawford also expressed interest in boxing Broner when he was in town earlier this month to promote his title defenses against Diaz.

“That’s a good fight, too,” Crawford said. “Broner, [he] just fought at 147, so who knows if he can make 140? But if he could, that would be a great fight, too. … If our managers and promoters come to an agreement where it suits both of us, then so be it.”

The 27-year-old Broner (33-2, 24 KOs), a former-four division champion, likely will fight again sometime in the summer.

In his most recent bout, Broner beat Adrian Granados (18-5-2, 12 KOs) by split decision in a 10-round welterweight fight February 18 at Xavier University’s Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Broner’s hometown. The Broner-Granados fight was contested at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds.
